To promote person-centered care for people affected by pain through advancing effective pain policy.

Who They Are

SPPAN is an association of leaders, representing a variety of health care and consumer organizations, and individuals, who work together in a cooperative and coordinated fashion to effect positive pain policy on the state level—policy that guarantees access to comprehensive and effective pain care for all people living with pain.

What They Do

SPPAN is creating a comprehensive and coordinated approach to improve pain policy. Its intent is to provide advocacy leaders with up-to-date information about pain management-related policies, and to give them the tools and resources they need to engage and mobilize other advocates in their state-based networks. SPPAN communicates with its members through bi-monthly meetings, policy updates, and action alerts. SPPAN’s resources include: bi-monthly teleconferences, electronic newsletters, a comprehensive website with resource links, policy statements, a state policy analysis grid, draft legislative and regulatory language, and training and networking opportunities.
